Reading.

Kowhai reading group have been reading non-fiction books. Today they used the contents page to identify what they were interested in to find facts about Kangaroos. In their own words they recorded information about Kangaroos and shared their new learning with the class.

Some facts we found out about Kangaroos were:
  • A kangaroo has big strong legs. It moves by jumping.
  • When a baby kangaroo is born it is as small as a little finger. It cannot see, and its back legs have not grown yet.
  • The tiny baby stays in the warm dark pouch until it is 5 months old.
  • A baby kangaroo is called a Joey.

NZ Post recounts

We are learning to write recounts using When? Who? Where? and What?

Here are some examples of our NZ Post writing.

I went to NZ Post on Wednesday. I went with friendly Room 2. I put my letter in a big machine. My letter was going fast in the machine. After I looked around huge NZ Post I went on the bus back to school.

Room 2 Sketches

We have been using pencils to draw our faces. First we drew our head and then a cross in the middle of our face to help us draw our features using the correct perspective. Here are some examples.

Postman Pat is busy delivering letters as well!

This week we visited Petone Settlers Museum. After Petone Settlers Museum we visited NZ Post to look at the process for how our mail gets sorted and then delivered. We even wrote our own letters and watched them whizz around a really fast machine!
We hope our parents receive our letters soon!

Swimming

On Tuesday and Thursdays our class walks to Eastbourne Pool to have swimming lessons with Mrs Ryan and Miss Finlay.
We wrote some recounts about swimming so you know what we do there. Here are some examples

Swimming by Ben

I sit on the pool wall. I roll over on my tummy then I slide into the pool. I dive through hoops. I lie on my back. I am a star fish. I play stuck in the mud. I feel happy.

Swimming by Emily

First we walked to the pool. Then we sat on the side then I rolled onto my tummy. Then we were dolphins going through the hoops. I felt excited in the water.

Swimming by Tom

I walked to the pool. At the pool we got changed. After we got changed we got into the pool. When we got cold everybody screamed cos it was cold. When everybody stopped shouting we played stuck in the mud. I was the tagger. When I got out it was freezing.

Swimming by Renee

I got into the pool. The top was hot and the bottom was cold. I rolled on my tummy. I slipped then splash! I went under the hoops. I felt happy
